Kosciuszko, We Are Here!
American Pilots of the Kosciuszko Squadron in Defense of Poland, 1919-1921

by Janusz Cisek
McFarland & Company, Inc. , September 2002

Its title echoing the famous salute to Lafayette when the American Expeditionary Force arrived in France during World War One, this book documents the far lesser known assist given by a small group of American pilots known as the Kosciuszko Squadron who volunteered - without support from the State Department or the A.E.F. - to help defend Poland during the Polish-Bolshevik War of 1919-1920, and prevent the Communist revolution in Russia from uniting with the "Spartacus" movement in Germany. The book examines events and issues of that war and explores why the members of the volunteer squadron, whose mission and name honored Tadeusz Koszciuszko's contributions to the American War for Independence, felt compelled to fight for Poland.
