opening reception: Friday, February 4th, 6:30pm - 9pm

Botany 5000 is a utopian future built around the superficial; a regimen of synthesized nutrients and biomedical science non-fiction replete with genetically altered plants and animals. Artists Michael Zansky and Pam Marchin, Ben Beaudoin, John Monti, Gae Savannah, Krzysztof Zarebski, Susana Starr, Sofi Zezmer, and Christopher Chambers give us their take on the impending future –– from mock, futuristic medical advertisements to altered resin animals and inbred vegetation. You are invited to feast upon Earth’s bountiful harvest whilst ye may! Curated by Christopher Chambers.

Krzysztof Zarebski
One of the leading Polish performers since 1972, Krzysztof Zarebski creates his art using everyday objects, his body, plants, blocks of ice, etc. With the exception of a few early pieces, music has always been an essential component of his work. Since 1981 the artist has been living and working in New York. Born in 1939, he graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1968 with a diploma in painting. The following year he showed his work at the Debut Salon. Has collaborated with i.a. Janusz and Maria Bogucki's Galeria Wspólczesna, working with Helmut Kajzar in the 1970s on the visual design of stage plays, and has since the 1980s been producing set designs for plays by Beckett and Rozewicz among others.
