Joanna Malinowska, In Search of the Miraculous, Continued (2005)
In March 2005, Joanna Malinowska traveled to Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic to pay homage to the unconventional pianist Glen Gould. She placed a solar-powered boom-box on the frozen soil, containing a copy of Glenn Gould’s 1981 recording of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The recording will be playing in the “Audio in the Elevator” program at Art in General.
Together with Joanna Malinowska’s sound piece, the following works will be on show at Art in General: new works by Jiří Skála, Czech artist in residency, a newly commissioned project by Alejandro Cesarco, a jazz-salon room by Xaviera Simmons, as well as the 8th Annual Video Marathon, organized as a five-week series of simultaneous exhibitions guest-curated by Tobias Berger, director and curator at Para/Site, a non-profit contemporary art space in Hong Kong, Michael Connor, head of exhibitions at the British Film Institute in London, and James Pei-Mun Tsang, an artist and feminist organizer who lives in Los Angeles.
