The creators of the 2007 Live Arts hit, Several Witty Observations (a lá Gombrowicz), will present Factor T., a quirky, irreverent new work based on the writings of Polish experimental filmmaker, novelist, philosopher, and poet Stefan Themerson. Factor T. is a theatrical interpretation of Themerson’s theory that the eternal tragedy (factor T.) of mankind lies in the conflict between a compulsion to satisfy certain urges and an aversion toward the actions that such satisfaction may require.
Acknowledged as Poland’s preeminent modern dance company, Dada is recognized throughout Europe for its intellectually rebellious flare. Factor T., directed by Leszek Bzdyl, will feature Katarzyna Chmielewska, Rafal Dziemidok, Leszek Bzdyl and Philadelphia dancer Bethany Formica in this hilarious, high-energy psychological deconstruction of the performer and his indispensable ego. The work incorporates lighting design by Michal Kolodziej, costumes by Hiroshi Iwasaki, and original music by Mikolaj Trzaska, one of Poland’s best jazz musicians.
Factor T. was created as a part of Out of bounds — choreographic encounters between Poland and Philadelphia. The context for this project embraces both the performance of existing work and the application of diverse artistic practices as part of a collaborative encounter among artists in the creation of new performance material.
