Roman Dziadkiewicz, FICiA, episode 2, as a part
of Hamlet / re:location, CCA Laznia,
Gdansk, 2004
Polish artist,
activist, and curator Roman Dziadkiewicz is the current
SPACES World Artists Program resident in Cleveland. SWAP is designed
to give visiting artists the time and opportunity to create new work
and interact with the Northeast Ohio community. During his six-week
residency, Dziadkiewicz has been daring the community to explore the
bond between socio-political activism and art. With previous
projects like Kidnapping of the Curator and Switzerland in
the Middle East, the exhibition of his current project promises
to be equally challenging, based as it is not only on his favorite
childhood book, Robinson Crusoe, but on local and global
social and political issues as well.
The project is
realized with major support from the Ohio Arts Council, which funds
international residencies through a grant from the US Department of
Education; it is realized in cooperation with the Polish Cultural
Institute in New York and A-I-R at the Centre for Contemporary Art “Ujazdowski Castle”,
Warsaw, Poland, as part of the POLAND-U.S. ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE
EXCHANGE PROGRAM.
