20th INTERNATIONAL POSTER BIENNALE IN WARSAW the world's oldest and most esteemed celebration of the art of the poster

In a country known for its development of the poster as an art form, Warsaw becomes the poster capital of the world this summer as established artists and emerging talent from around the world converge on the city for the announcement of winners in several categories and the opening of the main exhibition of competing works - 647 posters (from a total of 2,383 submitted) by 436 artists from 39 countries. Past competitors have included such names as Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti, Jan Lenica, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein. Awards are given in three major categories - ideological, cultural, and commercial, as well as the Henryk Tomaszewski "Golden Debut" awards (so named in honor of the late great Polish graphic artist and teacher who died in September 2005 at 91) for students and young graphic designers. The international jury members are Marjatta Ittkonen (Finland), Karel Miaek (Czech Republic), Thierry Sarfis (France), Radovan Jenko (Slovenia), and Marcin Mroszczak (Poland). Over twenty related events and specialized exhibitions of poster art will be taking place throughout the city. Among them:
