The exhibition features blow-ups of front pages from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post that highlight Solidarity; as well as covers of Time, Newsweek, and the New York Times Magazine, and press photographs by Erazm Ciolek from the so-called "Polish decade" of 1979-1989. In this period, the three aforementioned dailies devoted to Poland over 2,000 front-page stories. The exhibition is curated by Ewa Zadrzynska.

I spent the next decade following strikes, coups, wars, upheavals, and eventually - with the demise of the Soviet Union - the remaking of the map of Europe. The communist regime in Poland could ignore the voice of a small group of the daring, but they could not afford to ignore what was printed in The New York Times, TheWashington Post, or Le Monde. Their voices were brought back toPoland via Radio Free Europe, Voice of America or the BBC. That's how protests became political facts, and we, the participants, were learning the difficult art of political thought and action. The exhibition will be mounted in Union Square, along the southwest pathway leading to the subway entrance at 14th Street, near the statue of Gandhi, and the pavement plaques commemorating and describing events of the union movement in NYC.
