Professor Andrzej Zurowski is Director of the Polish Studies Institute at Pomeranian University in Slupsk, Poland. With 9 out of his more than 20 books devoted to the Bard, he is a leading Shakespeare scholar in Poland. His monographs: Polish Shakespearelike (1976), Thinking Shakespeare (1983), Shakespeare Overshadowed by Stars (2001), Shakespeare and the Violent Maelstrom (2004), and The Prehistory of Polish Shakespeare (2007), cover four hundred years of Polish Shakespearean theatre, a phenomenon of paramount importance for Polish culture. Prof. Zurowski received his doctorate in Polish Studies from the University of Gdansk, and has worked for over three decades as a theatre critic, documentary film maker, and dramaturge. From 1981 to 2001 he served as Vice-President of UNESCO's International Association of Theatre Critics, and was named its honorary life Vice-President in 2001. His book MODrzeJEwSKA ShakespeareStar will be published in the summer of 2009 in Poland.
