STANISLAW DRZEWIECKI

"A meeting with Stanislaw Drzewiecki and his music is an encounter with one of the marvels of nature." That is what Victor Merzhanov, a professor at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, wrote in the Moscow News in December 5, 1998, about an 11-year-old Polish pianist who had been a pupil of his. Born in Moscow, Stanislaw Drzewiecki had started piano lessons at age 4 and made his solo debut in the Conservatory's Grand Hall at age 5. At 6 he toured Japan with the Sinfonia Varsovia. At 7 he played Haydn's Piano Concerto, again with the Varsovia, on Polish Television. Performing to widening acclaim while still learning, he played piano concertos by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven at Warsaw's National Philharmonic Hall. In 1998, at age 11, he performed Chopin in London and Vancouver. He has performed with conductors from all over the world, and made a sensational debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in January, 2003.

Numerous TV appearances at home and abroad included the program, "The Master's Music Tales", hosted by Adam Makowicz, with whom he played pieces for two pianos and four hands. In 1999 he won the Grand Prix at the European Television Festival in Alicante, Spain. In 2000, as Polish Television's representative, he won the Grand Prix at the 10th Eurovision Contest for Young Musicians in Bergen, Norway. His three CDs were nominated for the Polish Recording Industry's "Fryderyk" Award in 1998, '99, and 2000. And in the music category for the year 2000, Stanislaw Drzewiecki, at 13, was awarded the prestigious "Polityka Passport" by Poland's leading weekly magazine.
