Piotr Kruszczynski (b. 1967 in Poznan) graduated from the Architecture Department of the Poznan University of Technology and the directing department at The Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre Academy in Warsaw.

He debuted as director in 1997 and from the very beginning of his career was interested above all in staging contemporary drama, both international and Polish. He directed texts by German writers Tankred Dorst, Esther Vilar, and Marius von Mayenburg, the Irish Conor McPherson, Canadian Brad Fraser, French Jean Claude Sussfeld, and Swedish Lars Noren. He also adapted for the stage classics of Polish 20th century drama by Slawomir Mrozek and Tadeusz Rozewicz, as well as texts of the younger generation of Polish playwrights: Lidia Amejko and - twice - Michal Walczak (Sandbox, The Mine). He has also staged Chekhov (Three Sisters, Platonov).

Piotr Kruszczynski has staged his productions in theaters in Poznan, Krakow, Gdansk, and Warsaw, as well as in the smaller towns of Kalisz, Jelenia Gora, and Gniezno. From 2002 to 2008 he was Artistic Director of the Szaniawski Drama Theatre in Walbrzych and he turned this industrial, poor, coalmining town into one of the most important theatrical sites in Poland. Many of the most famous Polish directors of the younger generation, such as Jan Klata and Maja Kleczewska, started their careers in Walbrzych. Kruszczynski directed the world premiere of Walczak's Sandbox and has toured with this play and others throughout Europe. He is a recipient of many theatrical awards in Poland.
