La MaMa E.T.C. is renowned as a venue for the finest in Polish theater. This time it is the acclaimed Wierszalin Theater from Bialystok in eastern Poland, twice winner of the Best of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Blending elements from the Gesta Romanorum (the 14th century "Deeds of the Romans"), the folklore of Poland's eastern borderlands, and more than a bit of Thomas Mann ("Doctor Faustus" and "The Chosen"), founder-director Piotr Tomaszuk examines the Oedipus myth and the nature of human sexuality, and suggests that the body is a trap and a curse. His brilliant performing duo play a psychedelic game - as a man and a woman, mother and son&
Dazzlingly innovative theatrical technique.
- Pippa Tennant, 15 Aug.2005, EdinburghGuide.com
Rafal Gasowski and Edyta Lukaszewicz, two fabulous, athletic, expressive actors.... this is the stuff of theatrical genius. - Ray Brown, Fringe 2005 Reviews, British Theatre Guide
