Factor T., a new production of DADA VON BZDÜLÖW THEATRE, is being created as part of Out of Bounds - choreographic encounters between Poland and Philadelphia. The context for this project embraces both the performance of existing work and the application of diverse artistic practices as part of a collaborative encounter among artists in the creation of new performance material.

Within the framework of Out of Bounds, Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre's acclaimed dance-theater work, Several Witty Observations (à la Gombrowicz), following its successful US debut at La MaMa E.T.C. in November 2006, will be presented at the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival (September 12-15). For more information click here.

Apart from that performance, during Dada's participation in the Out of Bounds project, it is working together with the Philadelphia dance community on Factor T., which will be presented as a work-in-progress on September 28. From August 20-24, 2007, the Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre conducted a workshop hosted by Dance Advance, during which the Philadelphia-based dancer Bethany Formica was selected to participate in the creation of Factor T. during rehearsals in both Philadelphia and Poland.

Out of Bounds provides artists with a platform for investigating choreographic material, and an opportunity to explore new training and choreographic/performance methods. The intent of Out of Bounds is to maximize project developmental time by allowing participating artists to work intensively on the creation and performance of new work. Audiences in both countries will encounter new performance work that reflects the dynamic collusion of theater, physical theater, and dance in this transatlantic collaboration. These encounters will be enhanced with "talk back" sessions programmed to follow each performance, and with public showings of the creative process itself, allowing for discussion of the very development of the work.

The work-in-progress presentation of Factor T. in Poland will take place at the Klub Zak in Gdansk (October 18, 2007), and the Polish premiere of Factor T. will be held at the Stary Browar Art Centre in Poznan (March 1-2, 2008). The American premiere will be presented at the 2008 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival.

Dance Advance is a program of the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Heritage, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by the University of the Arts.

The presentation of Several Witty Observations was made possible in part through a grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding. Special thanks to the City of Gdansk and the Office of the Marshall of Pomorskie Voivodship.
