KAROLINA KOWALSKA (b.1978) is a versatile artist, working with dark humour and irony in the media of installation, photography, animation and video. She studied graphic arts at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts and animation at the prestigious Hogeschool Gent in Flanders. Kowalska has collaborated with the experimental and performative art collective, the 36.6 Foundation, and with the feminist interactive art group, Grzenda (The Hen House), particularly known for its web-based game, Contraception. These projects have informed her practice, bringing a spirit of play, a consciousness of gender, and an element of performance into her individual work, which challenges the perception of the urban environment as commercial space. Her work has appeared on billboards and as site specific interventions, often questioning the role of authorship in public space and design.

She was a Forum Stadtpark Graz resident in Austria, has received a Ministry of Culture creative grant, and has participated in the Artist Pension Trust in Berlin.

LOCATION ONE in New York City is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering new forms of creative expression and cultural exchange through exhibitions, residencies, performances, public lectures and workshops. Traditionally focused on technological experimentation and new media, Location One's residencies and programs have favored social and political discourse and dialogue, and have acted as a catalyst for collaborations. With a unique environment providing individualized training, support, and guidance to each artist, as well as exposure for their creations and collaborations, Location One continues to nurture the spirit of experimentation that it considers the cornerstone of its mission.
