KATARZYNA KRAKOWIAK
Artist in residence at Residency Unlimited

Saturday, October 6, 2012 - Friday, November 30, 2012

Residency Unlimited
360 Court Street (green door),
Brooklyn, New York

Sculptor and multimedia artist Katarzyna Krakowiak (b. 1980) uses sound and other media to explore art and architecture. This year she represented Poland at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, Common Ground with the solo exhibition Making the walls quake as if they were dilating with the secret knowledge of great powers, curated by Michal Libera, garnering a Jury's Special Mention. Since graduating in 2006 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, under Miroslaw Balka, she has been experimenting with the Internet and radio in her work, collaborating with architects, stage designers, mobile communications technicians, software engineers, and activists. She is particularly interested in the clash between technology and biology, and in using sound vibrations inaudible to the human ear.

Residency Unlimited creates tailored environments for local and international artists and curators in all disciplines and at all stages of their practice. During their stay, participants receive individualized technical, production assistance and network support. The organization also provides logistical support and other resources custom tailored to meet their needs and the realization of projects.

The Polish-American artist-in-residence program is sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute New York in collaboration with AIR CCA Zamek Ujazdowski and Residency Unlimited New York.
