ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Sunday, October 26, 2014 - Sunday, November 30, 2014
New York City
The work of Krzysztof Skoczylas oscillates between art and design. As a trained landscape architect and an exhibition designer, Skoczylas is particularly interested in investigating space and its effects on the human body body memory, which is the effect a physical space leaves on viewers bodies after they have left it. He is also interested in the various modes of perceiving nature and thinking about space arrangement as element of a complex ecosystem. During his residency in New York Skoczylas will continue to research contemporary and historical exhibition practices in the context of body memory investigating performance art and social choreography of the city. His examination will go beyond the physicality of the city and will search deeper into the public/private and the physical/virtual network of space. Skoczylas is interested in how spontaneous or prearranged city movements effect ecological and political solutions and strategies, which aid the inclusion of all the ecological diversity into process of design.
The Polish-American artist-in-residence program is presented by the Polish Cultural Institute New York, Residency Unlimited and A.I.R Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw
