After critically acclaimed tours in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the Cracow Duo makes its New York City debut at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 8:00 PM in a free performance. With over a dozen years of successful concerts abroad, the duo of lifelong friends Jan Kalinowski (cello) and Marek Szlezer (piano) comes to New York in celebration of Fryderyk Chopin's 205th birthday. Recognized in Poland as staunch advocates of their country's musical tradition, the Cracow Duo will perform masterpieces by Fryderyk Chopin, as well as works by Aleksander Tansman.
The Cracow Duo has been praised by The Strad magazine for its "arresting" performances and "natural rapport." ResMusica described the Duo's performance of Chopin's Cello Sonata as "intelligent and reflective." The Duo has committed itself to performing and recording the best of Polish music and has recorded the chamber music of Chopin, Tansman, and Penderecki extensively. Kalinowski and Szlezer have acted as ambassadors for their homeland in the "Days of Kraków" festival in Nanjing, China and similar events around the world. Equally dedicated to music written by living composers, the Cracow Duo released their album Dedications in 2015, featuring works by Polish composers written expressly for the Duo.
Presented by "Porta Musicae" Artistic Association, Polish Music Center, and the Polish Cultural Institute New York.
