Katarzyna Kozyra, The Rite of Spring (1999/2004)
Katarzyna Kozyra and Pawel Althamer in
CARNEGIE INTERNATIONAL 2004-05

Saturday, October 9, 2004 - Sunday, March 20, 2005

Carnegie Museum of Art
4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, OH

Two of the most original and celebrated Polish artists of the younger generation are among the 38 artists from five continents who are represented in North America's longest-running and most prestigious exhibition series on contemporary art, the Carnegie International, along with the Venice Biennale a premier showcase for the best new art from around the globe.

Pawel Althamer, working in a variety of media, manages, by means of apparently ordinary interventions, to overturn the viewers' parameters of observation and to open up a new awareness of the everyday. At Carnegie, Althamer presents his Real Time Movie (2004), which consists of a performance of a 30-minute segment of daily life, and a 1,5-minute film trailer created to promote that performance. The trailer for the film plays continuously in the Museum's exhibition as well as at the several Pittsburgh movie theatres. For the performances, see the schedule below. Katarzyna Kozyra consistently confronts myths, taboos, and stereotypes as they touch upon larger universal truths about human nature, private behavior, and conventional standards of beauty. For this exhibition, curator Laura Hoptman has chosen Kozyra's highly acclaimed video installation The Rite of Spring (1999/2004).
